Truck Fair
The Truck Fair for the 2017-2018 School Year will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 8:15 - 10:25 a.m.
Sign-up here to bring a vehicle .......................Sign-up here to be a parent volunteer
What is a Truck Fair?
Truck Fairs highlight careers that use trucks, cars, or other vehicles as part of the day-to-day workplace activities. Our fair will allow students to speak with people in careers that aren't considered "office jobs" and to see their work vehicles. The goal is that students gain an appreciation for careers in the many industries that depend on travel or transportation to function in the marketplace.
How will West Millbrook's Truck Fair Work?
Area businesses will send a vehicle from their industry along with one or two employees, arriving at between 8:15 and 8:25. The employee will park the vehicle in a designated area at the school. Groups of students will then start visiting vehicles as soon as vehicles are in place and situated (around 8:40), for around 12 minutes per group. They will view the vehicle and talk with the business/organization representative about their career and the importance that the vehicle has in their daily work. Students will have booklets in which they will record information concerning each vehicle and career.
The event will conclude at 11:05 a.m.
Will you please help?
If your business or government entity has a vehicle that supports your career needs, we would love for you to participate. If you are concerned about how to prepare to talk with 11 and 12-year-old students, we have suggestions! Click here for questions/topics to consider as you prepare.
Wake County Public School's policy is that everyone who speaks with student groups review and sign a speaker agreement form. Please download and review this Speaker Agreement Form, and either fax it back to Marcia Jones at 919-518-0006 or be prepared to sign a copy on the morning of the event. Thank you!
Access Logistical Details of the Day Here.
Other Volunteers Needed, too!
To ensure student safety throughout the event, we also need several parents to help with student group movement, as well as a couple to assist with set-up logistics between 7:30 and 8:45.
