Career DayFriday, February 9, 2018
What is Career Day? Career Day is a coordinated effort between our Faculty, PTA and the West Millbrook Business Alliance. We are proud that it has been an integral part of our curriculum at West Millbrook Middle School since the mid-1990s. Our goal is to provide our students with speakers who are excited about what they do and will help our students start to see all the wonderful future possibilities that education and a strong work ethic creates for them. Our award-winning program has been successful over the years because of wonderful people such as you who generously donate time. Will you share your career? Do you have a career, or represent a career pathway, that could enlighten students and motivate them to do their best as they work through middle school and prepare for careers in the second and third quarters of the twenty-first century? We would love for you to participate! Please contact L. Marcia Jones, Career Development Coordinator, at [email protected] or 919-870-4050 ext. 24310. Because each classroom will have an assigned speaker, we try to line everyone up at least six weeks ahead of time, so as soon as you know that your schedule is open for March 4th, we would greatly appreciate an e-mail or phone call. Consider bringing a co-worker to speak with you! In the past, many of our speakers have brought one or more co-workers to share in the presentation. This seems to make it less stressful for the speakers, and the students absolutely LOVE hearing about various career experiences within an organization. For other ideas, including things to include in your presentation, click here. Speaker Agreement to Fax/E-mail Back Wake County Public School Board policy requires that all classroom speakers review and sign guidelines relating to guest speakers. Download the PDF file here. Please sign and either fax (919-870-4001) or e-mail a scanned copy to Marcia Jones prior to the February 9th Career Day date. You will be assigned to one of the core-curriculum classrooms (Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies) in either 6th, 7th, or 8th grade and three different groups will rotate in to see you based on the following schedule: Session 1 - 8:30– 9:15 Session 2 - 9:20 - 10:05 Session 3 - 10:10 - 10:55 |
